I am the Labour Party candidate in the Cabra-Glasnevin local electoral area This area takes in the communities of Drumcondra, Glasnevin, Navan Road, Ashtown, Cabra, Phibsborough and Broadstone.
I’m very proud to say that I live and am raising my children among these thriving and diverse collection of communities.
But we can do so much more to make them better places to live, raise our families and grow old in.
All my adult life, I have been campaigning and contributing to policy on the big issues of our time; our housing crisis; decent working conditions, our health system and public transport.
But one thing is very clear to me; real change can only begin locally.
I want to ensure that we get the balance right in what is being built in our communities, get speedier action on derelict sites and houses and provide families with local options for co-ed education for their children.
I stand for strong communities where there is decent, adequate housing for those who want to make their lives here, where there is safer cycling and a public transport system that works for all groups of people.
Ultimately, if we are to make any real dent to the climate change path that our city and country is on, then we need to change how we build and repair houses and what we prioritise in our public transport system. I really do believe Local Authorities and in particular, Dublin City Council can take the lead on this.
I look forward to meeting with you over the coming weeks. If there are any local issues which concern you please get in touch. Follow me on facebook @MarieSherlockDublin for the latest updates on local issues and for more about me on www.mariesherlock.ie
